Introduction

She Who Rises on the Lotus

॥ ॐ ॥
Goddess Lakshmi emerging from the cosmic ocean upon a pink lotus
"Padmā — She who is born of the lotus of the ocean"

Goddess Lakṣmī (Sanskrit: लक्ष्मी) is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, fortune, beauty and fertility. She is the eternal consort of Bhagavān Viṣṇu and is worshipped as the divine Mother who grants both material abundance and spiritual well-being.

While Durgā represents fierce protection and Sarasvatī represents pure knowledge, Lakṣmī represents the gentle, nurturing and generous aspect of the Divine Mother. She is the One who grants śrī (auspiciousness) and removes daridra — poverty both of the world and of the heart.

She is often depicted seated or standing upon a pink lotus, with streams of gold flowing from Her hands, flanked by elephants showering Her with water — the eternal image of purity, prosperity and royal abundance.

True abundance is never one thing alone. The Mother arrives as grain in the field, as courage in the heart, as children in the home, as knowledge on the tongue, as victory in every righteous endeavour. The Aṣṭalakṣmī are the eight petals of one lotus — one Mother offering every form of well-being to those who walk in dharma.
